I bought a british frames and american foundations, I didn't know about the wiring thing so they didn't fit with each other!

When fitting the roof metal I use self drilling TEK screws as the nails always come loose.

These were a faff. I found it easier to secure just a single bar first before adding the wax and then securing the second bar after this was already nicely in place. Also as others have said, the pins provided go through the top bar and it’s difficult to angle them. I had the removable bar the other way when I tacked it up. Not sure what difference this’ll make overall (perhaps they’ll just build comb over it). Does the temperature/weather make a difference. Doing this on a hot sunny day I found the wax to be very supple and more prone to disfiguring when trying to insert it the way he does in this video.

Not the best way really. Always a nail on opposite sides. 2nd bottom bar goes in after wax sheet secured.

The supplied pins come through the top bar when fixing the wax!

Useful but it’s hard to get passed the appalling state of his bitten fingers! 😣

Tacks supplied go right through when pinning wax in place, lots of sharp tips on top 🤔

Use a model maker’s pin pushing tool rather than a hammer. Worth every penny if you can get a decent one (check the reviews, some are flimsy)

As cack handed methods go, this is very good. Much easier to put the side bars in first and then drop the panels in afterwards. The Thornes method is how I ruined a brood box they sent me initially. Simon the Beekeeper shows an easier method to do the same thing.

Difficult to follow and some instructions are ambiguous. Doesn’t tally with the written instructions online. Requires copious use of the Pause and Back buttons but got there in the end.

No problems with this assembly and very little wood needed to be skimmed off the bottom. I used an old butter knife to help get a clean 90 degree bend for the thin wire base foot. A very pleasant afternoon building the brood box and then frames for the brood & supers during lockdown.

Hmmm! No doubt this was well rehearsed beforehand. It's all very well as long as the bottom bars fit into the slots, I have had to shave quite a bit of wood off both sides of every single one of them, on 11 frames that's 44 sides to shave, took ages and when they eventually fitted in the slots the wax is almost impossible to slide down through the gap, so I had to fit one bottom bar and then put the wax in place and then pinch it together with the other bottom bar. So Thornes, my point is perhaps you should make a video on a frame that comes straight out of a packet and what to do when things don't go according to plan. Other than that, I like your stuff!

This 7/16" thing is confusing and unnecessary. Put the box together with the top of the inner panels flush with the lower inner edge of the top locking bar. The resultant flat surface is easy to clean with a hive tool or scraper. Then add a runner or castellation using a frame as a measure so that the top of the frame fits flush with the top of the super or brood box.

Well I wish I'd seen this before I butchered mine together. I think I will have to order another one now. Whoops!
